Immersion T3 - History Of Hobsonville w/ Nicole & Helen
On Friday (15.9.17) we had our first session of Nicole and Helen's immersion, it was in the second block of the day (11:30-12:15). Just like Liz's immersion the student teacher was doing most of the immersion teaching (Helen). First we got into groups of 3 and we had to make 6 groups out of the whole group 6 immersion group. Helen then gave us a historical photos of events of NZ and then we had to look through the photos and observe as a group. I got into a group with Anjani and Rhiannon I made a document to put our info on and then I shared it with them. We each chose a photo and researched about it. Helen only gave us like 10 mintues which isn't enough! We then all shared the info and wrote it onto the white board . It made it a lot harder to share info because there was one
made it harder to learn . Afte r that we talked abou t what the definition of History was our definition was: an event that changed society. Since our first session of this immersion was on a Friday I was sick the whole rest of the next week (week 9) so missed the rest of the immersion but this session was really good.
Immersion T3 - Art w/ Max
On Thursday (14.9.17) we had two sessions of Max's immersion on
Immersion T3 - Sign Design W/ Liz
The first session of this immersion was on Thursday last week (7.9.17). I missed this session sadly because I was at SPINS for almost half of the day so I spent most of my day at the high school. This session didn't seem to matter that much though because all they did was take photos of sings around the high school.
I did get to go to the second sessionthough which was this week on Monday (11.9.17). All we did was sit in groups of about 5 around a table and then wrote on post-it notes our comments on those pictures of signs from the high school that they took on Thursday (7.9.17).
On the third session we were suppose to play around with photo shopping on the mac laptops but most of the computers didn't even have the application. So to fill in time we walked around the school and took photos of areas of the school that have blank spaces where signs could go. So after we tried the online site called Wordle which helps you create word signs well out of words by just pasting a whole lot of words into a box and then it processes and turns it into a sign. But this site didn't work either... so we tried another site called Word Cloud and finally it works! We had to paste words about the school into a word box and then the website generates it into a design made out of words. We played around with that for a bit, playing with different colours , sizes, shapes etc. After the student teacher Emma showed us a video about sign characters coming to life and telling a story. So after that Emma gave us all a printed out sign of people walking to school and on the back we had to change the look of the sign by tracing on the back and change what they look like and what they are carrying. Maya and I paired up for this drawing project and we designed two people going shopping.
I did get to go to the second session
On the third session we were suppose to play around with photo shopping on the Saturday, September 9, 2017
Immersion T3 - Playground Design w/ Jono
This week we started our first week of immersion. This time we did the project and immersion method backwards and we organised our projects first and now we are doing immersion. Which is weird I 've never done it before but it doesn't seem to have any affect on the process of projects. On monday the 4th of september we started our first session of immersion in the middle block (11:30-12:15) The teachers made up groups of people for each immersion and there were 6 groups and for this immersion we had to mix with kids from LC4 so we also had LC4 teachers teaching our immersion. I'm in group six and since group Jono and Amy were pretty much doing the same immersion we got put together for the day. For this immersion we were looking at designs for a playground because we are building a new playground on our school grounds next to our other playground. To get an idea of how a playground should look we went to the public playground next to our school the Hobsonville Point Park. We had to take photos and notes of what we saw at that park that we liked to be in our new playground.
On Tuesday the 5th of September we started our second day of immersion. This time it was just group 6. We signed up with Tinkercad and had to go through all of the tutorials first before creating a 3D design so we knew what we were doing. We pretty much did that the wholesession but Jono was nice enough to let us go and get food because we were hungry. Each person had to made a playground design for our new playground. I made the design of having in-ground trampolines next to our new playground. This immersion started at 9:30 am and ended at 11:00 am so we pretty much spent the whole time designing a piece of playground equipment for the new playground. While we were all designing Jono was printing out a fidget spinner on the 3D printer to give us an example of what the 3D printer can do. Because Jono was gonna pick some of the designs we made and print them out on the 3D printer.
On Thursday 7th ofSeptember we had our last day of playground designing with Jono and we pretty much did the same thing as Tuesday. Except when we had finished our designs we got to create a blog post about the experience of our immersion that week. But I didn't get to because I had to leave for SPINS at 10:30 am which meant that I missed 30 minutes of my last immersion session. But this immersion was really good because I've never used Tinkercad before and I also got to work with a different teacher.

Science Badge - Task 6
Read about 5 different fish and make a presentation
I did this task at home and it was the last science badge task I could do at school. But while I was doing that I was doing two tasks at home. I was making a mobile with the small animals and insects in my garden. Watch bird eating patterns at home with food from my house and present it into a graph. This was a fairly easy task I just had to mostly research for this task and I find researching quite easy. I then just had to present it into a presentation on google slides. The 5 fish I chose were Clown Fish, Goldfish, Palette Surgeonfish, Chinook Salmon & Swordfish. I researched about each fish and put the info and linksinto a google document. I then analysed it and put it into google slides and edited it then showed it to Jess.

Science Badge - Task 5
Presentation To Conserve Rare Animals
This task only took me a few hours it was quite easy to research for this task because I just had to lookon the department of conservation. I chose only animals from New Zealand I chose the Kiwi, The Maui Dolphin and The Kakapo. I put all my info on a google doc and summarized it into four google slides. I also added some pictures of the animals to give a visual representation. I then showed it to Jess and I earned two stars getting me to 10 stars! She then printed it out for my presentation on the display board.

Science Badge - Task 4 (At Home)
Make A Model Of How Maori Stored Their Food From Rodents
I did this task at home so that I could have 2 tasks on the go to get to 20 stars as soon as possible. This took me quite a long time taking me 3afternoons to design, create and paint the Pataka (Storage House). I'm quite proud of it and so was Jess she was really impressed with it, all of the teachers were. First I had to research about what Maori used to store their food. But I had to find how they stored it from rodents. I found this quickly and put photos and info on a google doc and designed my Pataka according to that. I listed the materials I would need and after school went and bought them from $2 shop. The next day after school I started and I spent my whole afternoon creating the Pataka and it took me three afternoons. I finally finished the task and I took photos and showed it to Jess first and then on Monday 21st I showed her the real thing and I've set it up next to my presentation board.

Science Badge - Task 3
Slide Show About Where Snails Live In Our Garden
This task was a little bit harder becausebelieve it or not it is quiet hard to find information about where snails live in our gardens. But I looked through a lot of websites and I finally found a website with the right info. I then put my info into the google doc and summarized it. I then put the info onto 3 google slides and showed it to Jess to gain 2 stars to my already 4 stars making it 6.

Science Badge - Task 2
Local Fish Life Cycle - Eel

This task took me about half an hour because all I had to do was research about an eels life cycle analyze the research and put my info into a life cycle for long-finned eels. I first did a sketch and then did a good copy and coloured it in in the appropriate colours . I was really proud of this life cycle cause I worked quite hard on it. We had to prepare for our presentation on Monday so we had to share one of our finished tasks with our science badge group and I chose to share this life cycle with group and they really enjoyed it. Jess really enjoyed it as well when I shared it with her to prove it for 2 stars.

This task took me about half an hour because all I had to do was research about an Science Badge - Task 1
3 Extinct Animals Article
This was my first task for science badge it was a pretty easy one. I started off by choosing my 3 animals, I chose to do different animals from around the world. These animals are the Western Black Rhino, the Huia and the Tasmanian Tiger which are all famous animals of their countries. I researched about these three animals and how they became extinct. Researching was easy for me because I have been researching and analyzing for years now. After that I wrote and introduction and made a paragraph for each animal. I finished this task quickly and signed it off with Jess earning me 2 stars.

Weekly Reflection T3 W3 - Science Badge
For this term we had to start our science projects because last term we finished our immersions about natures energy, physical energy and chemical reactions. For this term we had three options on what we could do our project on. First the teachers talked about our three paths we could take for each type of science project. There were three options learn it, teach it and prove it. Prove it you can either do science badge or a science fair. Science badge is an online coarse in which you complete science based tasks to do with the theme that you pick. Each task has an amount of stars you can receive to complete a number of twenty stars to earn the science badge of that science theme. The science fair is where you choose to display your science experiment with others in a science fair. If you chose to participate in a teach it science project you would either make a YouTube video explaining how to create and experiment or you would teach a class in another learning common in the school. Learn it you just do a science experiment with a driving question and the scientific method. I chose to work on a science badge for science project . I've really enjoyed it so far since we haven't received the badges yet and the full list of tasks I just started on one of the tasks in the sample tasks. Which is to write and article about three extinct animals and why they went extinct. I've started off by researching about three animals from africa and how they went extinct. Now I'm starting to write my article and it's going really well.
Monday the 7th of August we received our science badges and tasks. We had already started some tasks from sample they gave us. I had started the task where we have to research about 3 extinct animals and write an article about those animals and how they became extinct. It was a pretty easy task but I did struggle with how I could write the article because I had never written one before. But I did quite well in writing my own article and I got two stars for completing this task. We have to complete the right amount of tasks to get 20 stars in total. I also completed two other tasks to make a life cycle of a local fish and to make a slide show on where snails live in your garden which means so far I have 6 stars. Right now I'm working on one task at home and one at school. The one task I'm working on at home is making a scale model of how Maori used to store their food from rodents.

Monday 14th of August this our last week before our science fair next week on monday the 21st of August. This week we have to create our presentation and we have two options to do it digitally or on a science fair display board. I chose the display board because I felt I could express my creativity more on a display board. I started my display board a bit late this week because I couldn't find a box big enough at home but then my mum got me one from her work. So I spent my whole wednesday afternoon making my presentation for monday but on tuesday got Jess to print out all of finshed tasks so I could glue them onto my display board. I brought it to school on thursday and finished it off with some finishing touches like metallic pen etc. I also had to write my indavidual tasks process next to each task and glued it on. When I was finishing off my display board I signed off two of my finished tasks which were the Maori storage model and to make a presentation on conserving rare animals. So on thursday I signed the tasks off with Jess which meant I received 4 more stars getting me to 10 stars! I also had spins that day so I finished off my display board at end of the day.
Weekly Reflection T3 W4 - Google Summit
On Friday the 11th of August us as a class attended the Google summit at Ormiston primary and junior collage . The Google Summit is an event where a whole lot of schools gather together a one school to run workshops for each other on their passions at their schools. But before we went to the Google summit we had to plan out our day and what sessions we would take during the day. The teachers suggested that we get into groups and choose our sessions so that we would have people that we could be with the whole day. So I got into a group with Mikayla, Keira and Maya C and we all got into a group and chose our sessions together. We couldn't just choose one workshop for one block we had to choose 3 options so that in case there were to many people in a workshop we would be able to go to another one.
We chose these sessions:
We got to go on a bus to our destination which was in east Auckland which was really fun because I love going buses except this one was really noisey with all the kids yelling. We got there a bit late which meant that we missed out on the welcoming assembly but that meant we were first into our first workshops for the day. When we first got there they gave us pieces of card giving us access to the event. For our second workshop we took Lilly's complex character design. which I really enjoyed because I love doing art. I wish it was a lot longer though because most people didn't get to finish their characters which was really sad. And after that our final session we chose to participate in the green screen workshop which was great cause I never usually work with green screens. To end off the day we all
moved into the school auditorium for an end of day talk about the day.
We chose these sessions:

Weekly Reflection T3 W3 - Korean
On Monday the 7th of July I had my first session of culture studies in Korean for term 3. I missed the last session of Korean because I was sick the whole week. But when I came to my first session of culture studies I got a warm welcome from our Korean teacher. We started with learning the simple Korean greetings. For our follow up from languages we had to practise the simple greetings for our next session next Monday (13th of August). I've been practising the simple greetings for korean so I can do well in the next week in our monday session.

Weekly Reflection - Week 1 T3 International Students
On Monday the 24th of July we finally met our international students from China. Mikayla and I teamed up to look after a Chinese student together. I think this was a good idea incase I was busy Mikayla could look after her or viceversa . Mikayla and I received a girl named Carla she changed her name so we could pronounce her name which was really nice of her. We gave her tour around the school to show her our amazing school. I think she really enjoyed it because she kept taking photos and smiling. What I found strange was that at her school they were aloud to play on their phones during school. At morning tea we showed her around the playground and we played basketball and soccer with her. After a while she got cold so she went inside with her friend from china. I'm really excited to spend the rest of the term with her.

Amy's Immersion - Rollercoaster Simulator
On Thursday the 6th of July we continued into our last say of Amy's Immersion. To start off we needed to finish off our movies about what we did in immerion . Then when we were finished with that Amy showed us a roller coaster simulator that we can build ourselves and see if the roller coaster will work.

Weekly Reflection - Amy's Immersion Week 10
Today in Amy's immersion we were completing our flying pendulum experiment. All we needed to do was to complete our last calculations to find our theoretical velocity and compare it to our measured velocity that we calculated before we started our experiment. After we had finished that we started to film ourselves recreating how we did and prepared for the experiment. This didn't take

Elephants Toothapaste - Immersion with Nicole and Kothar
For most of this immersion I was not present because I was attending Kapa Haka but when I did get back I quite enjoyed it. I joined a team of girls who had almost finished the project of successfully making "Elephant's toothpaste" when I got back to immersion the girls had changed how much water they put into the mixture which made the mixture a success and it started foaming and it over flowed the milk bottle. The paste was filled with huge bubbles and it was mostly made out of air but it was cool to watch overflow. The surprising thing was is that the mixture was really warm? but I really enjoyed the experience I got.
Reflection - Projects T1 - T2
Last term (Term 1) we had our first projects for the year. I chose to pursue in fairtrade because wanted to raise awareness for un-fair trade . So that people can know what really happens in the chocolate industry. I think we did really well at this. At the start we wrote out our how might we. Ours was very good for our group because it helped us through out the whole project. After that we figured out what we actually wanted to do so we decided that we want to spread the word around the community by sending an article about fair trade to a newspaper of Hobsonville point. We contacted all of the newspapers and magazines of Hobsonville and asked if they would take our letter and publish it. A lot of the responses were no but when the Westerly answered it was a good answer they said yes! We were so excited by this we got to work straight away. We all came up with a sub topic each for our letter and then we got to researching straight away. When we had finished our research we quickly finished our writing plan and started with our article. We went quite well with our article and we got it finished on time for the newspaper. We also created posters and flyers for the school to put up around the school for the school chocolate fair. Some times we struggled with team work and communication but other than that it was a successful project.

Reflection - Maths T1
In term 1 I had maths with Felicity. We were working on fractions, proportions and ratios. We mostly worked on fractions like improper fractions, addition of fractions, subtraction of fractions and equivalent fractions. I really enjoyed improper and equivalent fractions because they were so easy for me. But it was good to learn all of the types of fractions and how to work them out it will be very helpful for the future. But I'm excited to learn more about volume and area this term.

Reflection - Literacy T1
In term 1 I had Hogwarts with Felicity and it was quite good because it was challenging but I did struggle with all of the follow ups. Overall we did about four pieces of writing two were persuasive one was creative writing and one was an information report. I really enjoyed writing the information report because I chose to write it about Beyonce. She's been my favorite singer/artist since I was little. But it was still really challenging for me because the last time I had done a information report was when I was nine I think. But there were really enjoyable parts of Hogwarts like I really liked my reading classes because I really enjoy reading it's one of my favorite subjects. Hogwarts was I really good class for me because it gave me a taste of what it might be like in high school. I did enjoy Hogwarts but I'm happy I can have a break from Hogwarts and try something new.

Weekly Reflection - HPSS Interview
Yesterday on the 7th of June the high school students came to our school to interview us about climate change. I was really happy and excited cause I got to work with my friend Jacinda and Maya. The interview went really well because there was no awkwardness because we knew Jacinda. It was really cool to see Jacinda again cause I really miss her she's one of my best friends. We got through the interview really fast which was good but if there's a next time I definitely try and focus more. Other than that the experience was really great.

Weekly Reflection - Felicity's Immersion
Term 2 Week 5
30.5.17
This week we started our immersions. I started with Felicity'simmersion which is about energy to do with nature. For example plants , animals bacteria etc. On Monday Felicity told us a few facts about energy in plants and well basically anything. She was telling us that everything has energy it even paper! I was so shocked by this fact I started looking at everything differently knowing that it has energy in it. We also did activities were we had to sort animals and plants into different categories. We were also told that we were gonna make a fair test by growing a bean seed in a cup of soil. Then on Tuesday Martina and I paired up to run our growing a bean seed fair test. Martina and I are testing whether a bean seed will germinate without sunlight. We started out planning our experiment and how much water we were gonna give the plants. On Tuesday Martina and I planted our beans and had one on the window sill and one in a cupboard. Then we gave them both the same amount of water and then we let them sit and grow. Wednesday, Felicity was away so Trudy was teaching our immersion. We talked about food webs and food chains and how much more complicated food webs are than food chains. After we all got to draw our own food chains and webs. Some kids even shared their food chains and webs with the class on the white board. Then we finished off with an activity on studyladder .

Weekly Reflection - Specialist
Term 2 Week 5
31.5.17
This week in speacialist I had PE (Physical Education). In this session we had a game of basketball, Long ball and octapus . The basketball game was really exciting and fun and everyone was trying their hardest and having fun. Everyone was working together really well it was a great game. Longball was the complete opposite of basketball. Even though me and a lot of other people tried our hardest quite a lot of other people were mucking around. This made other people miss out on more time to play longball which was sad. I didn't get a turn at kicking the ball which was really annoying. We also got a talk from the teacher about other people's behaviour which took up a lot of our PE time which was really unfortunate. But other than all of that the PE session was really good. Next time I hope that people will be more sensible in our next speacialist .
