Immersion T3 - History Of Hobsonville w/ Nicole & Helen

On Friday (15.9.17) we had our first session of Nicole and Helen's immersion, it was in the second block of the day (11:30-12:15). Just like Liz's immersion the student teacher was doing most of the immersion teaching (Helen). First we got into groups of 3 and we had to make 6 groups out of the whole group 6 immersion group. Helen then gave us a historical photos of events of NZ and then we had to look through the photos and observe as a group. I got into a group with Anjani and Rhiannon I made a document to put our info on and then I shared it with them. We each chose a photo and researched about it. Helen only gave us like 10 mintues which isn't enough! We then all shared the info and wrote it onto the white board. It made it a lot harder to share info because there was one
kid who just kept yelling out the answers which
made it harder to learn . After that we talked about what the definition of History was our definition was: an event that changed society. Since our first session of this immersion was on a Friday I was sick the whole rest of the next week (week 9) so missed the rest of the immersion but this session was really good.

Immersion T3 - Art w/ Max

On Thursday (14.9.17) we had two sessions of Max's immersion on Thursday but I missed the second session because of SPINS at the high school, I also missed half and hour of the the first session. But the hour of the of the first session I was at we spent most of the session talking about silhouettes and looking at silhouettes from online. After that we talked about a famous artist from New Zealand called Tiffany Singh we looked her art for a while and what art she has done with other schools in NZ and also the art she's doing with our school right now with a few students from our class (LC7).

On Friday (15.9.17) we started off with silhouettes for a bit and then we did a Kahoot about famous cities silhouettes and we had to spell the cities out on the Kahoot. I was coming first but I got one wrong and I finished 6th sadly. But I did enjoy this activity cause I really like playing on Kahoot. After that we went back to Tiffany Singh's Tumblr website and chose a piece of art she has created we then had to make description of the story behind that art piece and I chose the wax and crystal art she made out of organic bees wax. After that I started writing this blog post about this immersion.

Immersion T3 - Sign Design W/ Liz

The first session of this immersion was on Thursday last week (7.9.17). I missed this session sadly because I was at SPINS for almost half of the day so I spent most of my day at the high school. This session didn't seem to matter that much though because all they did was take photos of sings around the high school.

I did get to go to the second session though which was this week on Monday (11.9.17). All we did was sit in groups of about 5 around a table and then wrote on post-it notes our comments on those pictures of signs from the high school that they took on Thursday (7.9.17).

Image result for walking signOn the third session we were suppose to play around with photo shopping on the mac laptops but most of the computers didn't even have the application. So to fill in time we walked around the school and took photos of areas of the school that have blank spaces where signs could go. So after we tried the online site called Wordle which helps you create word signs well out of words by just pasting a whole lot of words into a box and then it processes and turns it into a sign. But this site didn't work either... so we tried another site called Word Cloud and finally it works! We had to paste words about the school into a word box and then the website generates it into a design made out of words. We played around with that for a bit, playing with different colours, sizes, shapes etc. After the student teacher Emma showed us a video about sign characters coming to life and telling a story. So after that Emma gave us all a printed out sign of people walking to school and on the back we had to change the look of the sign by tracing on the back and change what they look like and what they are carrying. Maya and I paired up for this drawing project and we designed two people going shopping.

Immersion T3 - Playground Design w/ Jono

This week we started our first week of immersion. This time we did the project and immersion method backwards and we organised our projects first and now we are doing immersion. Which is weird I've never done it before but it doesn't seem to have any affect on the process of projects. On monday the 4th of september we started our first session of immersion in the middle block (11:30-12:15) The teachers made up groups of people for each immersion and there were 6 groups and for this immersion we had to mix with kids from LC4 so we also had LC4 teachers teaching our immersion. I'm in group six and since group Jono and Amy were pretty much doing the same immersion we got put together for the day. For this immersion we were looking at designs for a playground because we are building a new playground on our school grounds next to our other playground. To get an idea of how a playground should look we went to the public playground next to our school the Hobsonville Point Park. We had to take photos and notes of what we saw at that park that we liked to be in our new playground.

On Tuesday the 5th of September we started our second day of immersion. This time it was just group 6. We signed up with Tinkercad and had to go through all of the tutorials first before creating a 3D design so we knew what we were doing. We pretty much did that the whole session but Jono was nice enough to let us go and get food because we were hungry. Each person had to made a playground design for our new playground. I made the design of having in-ground trampolines next to our new playground. This immersion started at 9:30 am and ended at 11:00 am so we pretty much spent the whole time designing a piece of playground equipment for the new playground. While we were all designing Jono was printing out a fidget spinner on the 3D printer to give us an example of what the 3D printer can do. Because Jono was gonna pick some of the designs we made and print them out on the 3D printer.

On Thursday 7th of September we had our last day of playground designing with Jono and we pretty much did the same thing as Tuesday. Except when we had finished our designs we got to create a blog post about the experience of our immersion that week. But I didn't get to because I had to leave for SPINS at 10:30 am which meant that I missed 30 minutes of my last immersion session. But this immersion was really good because I've never used Tinkercad before and I also got to work with a different teacher.
